• First Action Level
Daily personal exposure to noise of 85db(A), being reduced to 80db(A) in 2006.

• Second Action Level
Daily personal exposure to noise of 90db(A), being reduced to 85db(A) in 2006.

• Peak Action Level
Maximum sound pressure of 200 pascals, being reduced to 140 pascals in 2006.

The legislation requires that:

• Noise assessments are to be undertaken by a competent person if the noise level exceeds the first action level.

• Noise reduction measures are implemented where reasonably practicable.

• Workers are provided with appropriate training and information

• Appropriate PPE and hearing tests are provided if there is evidence of a risk to workers' hearing.

• The risks posed by noise are eliminated or reduced wherever it is reasonably practicable to do so.
