Many of these could be avoided with training and the correct use of equipment which reduces the need for handling and lifting.
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations of 1992 were revised in March 2004 and are now fully in force. They provide a framework for employers to tackle the risks from manual handling. Within the regulations, if employers cannot avoid manual handling where there is a risk of injury, they must assess their operations and take action to reduce the risk of injury to the lowest level reasonably practicable.
As part of Speedy's continued commitment to Health & Safety, we have assembled a large range of products which eliminate or assist manual handling operations. This specialist equipment can be hired for short periods to help conduct specific tasks. As with every single item within Speedy's range, this equipment is maintained inspected prior to each hire and issued with detailed instructions for safe use.
The Material Handling Operations Regulations
The regulations require employers to:
• Avoid hazardous manual handling operations so far as is reasonably practicable.
• Assess any hazardous manual handling operations that cannot be avoided - for example by using an assessment checklist (an example is included in the back of the guidance on the regulations).
• Reduce the risk of injury so far as is reasonably practicable.
Other areas covered include the task, the load, the working environment, individual capabilities and employer's duties. |
